Functional Nutrition for Fertility and Infertility
A deeper functional nutrition approach

Nutrition can be a meaningful, empowering part of fertility care. A focused plan can strengthen nutrient status, metabolic health, digestive function, energy availability, and day-to-day readiness for treatment or pregnancy.
Fertility is shaped by many interconnected factors, including ovulation, sperm health, reproductive anatomy, genetics, metabolic health, and overall nourishment. I help individuals and couples build a stronger nutritional foundation so food and supplements feel like a source of support rather than another source of stress.
How I build your care plan
I lead the nutrition side of fertility preparation by assessing energy availability, balanced meals, glucose regulation, preconception nutrients, digestive health, body composition, food restrictions, supplement use, and the needs of each partner. The plan can begin before formal fertility treatment or be adapted around an existing treatment timeline.
My role is to make fertility nutrition specific, complete, manageable, and aligned with your goals so you know what to focus on, what to take, and why.
How I approach fertility and infertility
Assess both adequacy and metabolic health
The goal is not simply weight change. We look at total energy, protein, carbohydrate quality, fats, fiber, glucose regulation, and whether the current intake supports reproductive function and treatment demands.
Prioritize preconception nutrients intelligently
Folate, choline, iodine, iron, B12, vitamin D, omega-3 fats, and other nutrients may matter, but needs vary. We review food intake, labs, medical history, and the prenatal or supplement regimen to avoid both gaps and unnecessary excess.
Connect reproductive and digestive health
Celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, restrictive diets, nausea, constipation, and malabsorption concerns can affect nutritional status. A plan must be digestively tolerable enough to follow consistently.
Coordinate around treatment and timing
Procedures, medications, pregnancy, and male- or female-factor diagnoses change the plan. When fertility medications or procedures are involved, I organize nutrition and supplements around that timeline so the plan remains clear and compatible.
How supplements may fit into your plan
A personalized supplement plan can make preconception nutrition more complete and manageable. I review the needs of each partner, food intake, laboratory results, digestive tolerance, medications, fertility treatment, and the timeline for conception or pregnancy.
- Preconception vitamin and mineral support: may help build a stronger nutritional foundation, with the formulation selected around diet, laboratory findings, health history, and individual needs.
- Omega fatty acids: may be incorporated when dietary intake is low or when reproductive, inflammatory, and cardiometabolic goals make additional support relevant.
- Antioxidant support: may be considered for selected egg-, sperm-, metabolic-, or recovery-related goals according to the full fertility picture.
- Targeted herbal or nutrient support: may be added when symptoms, laboratory findings, medications, treatment timing, and product quality provide a clear rationale.
I personalize the formulation, timing, and duration, remove unnecessary duplication, and organize the routine so supplements support fertility goals without becoming overwhelming.
What a personalized plan may include
- A preconception nutrition assessment for the relevant partner or partners
- Review of food restrictions, weight changes, GI symptoms, medications, and supplements
- Personalized priorities for protein, fiber, fats, carbohydrates, and micronutrients
- PCOS, thyroid, glucose, celiac, or cardiometabolic support when relevant
- Simple meal and supplement routines that reduce decision fatigue
- A recommendation for fertility evaluation when testing, treatment, or time-sensitive concerns make it important
Your path forward
We build a clear food, supplement, laboratory, and lifestyle plan around conception goals. A reproductive specialist is incorporated when fertility testing, medication, procedures, recurrent loss, or time-sensitive concerns make medical intervention important.
