Functional Nutrition for Food Allergies and Food Sensitivities

A safer, more complete nutrition approach

Avoiding a food is only one part of the plan. The bigger goal is protecting nutritional adequacy, meal variety, confidence, and quality of life.

I help distinguish confirmed food allergies from intolerances, symptom triggers, and overly broad restriction so the diet is as safe as necessary without becoming more limited than it needs to be.

How I build your care plan

We review reactions, testing history, current exclusions, nutrient intake, GI symptoms, growth or weight changes, supplements, and daily food routines. For true allergies, medical diagnosis and emergency planning belong with the appropriate medical team; nutrition care focuses on safe, complete implementation.

A good elimination plan removes what truly needs to be avoided while actively replacing the nutrients, foods, and flexibility that may otherwise be lost.

What we may address

Safe substitutions

We identify practical replacements for excluded proteins, grains, dairy products, nuts, seeds, or other foods so meals remain balanced and satisfying.

Nutrient gaps

Calcium, vitamin D, iron, B vitamins, protein, essential fats, fiber, and other nutrients may require attention depending on the foods removed.

Digestive symptoms and tolerance

Not every reaction is an allergy. GI symptoms may involve intolerances, FODMAP load, celiac disease, reflux, or other causes that deserve a separate assessment.

Reintroduction when appropriate

When a food is not a confirmed allergy and reintroduction is clinically appropriate, I help structure it carefully rather than leaving someone on an indefinite restrictive diet.

How supplements may fit

  • Vitamins and minerals: may help cover gaps created by necessary avoidance.
  • Omega fatty acids: may be relevant when dietary sources are limited.
  • Antioxidant support: may be considered for broader inflammatory goals.
  • Targeted nutrients or herbs: are individualized and never used as a substitute for allergy safety.

What a personalized plan may include

  • A complete review of excluded foods and likely nutrient gaps
  • Grocery, restaurant, and meal-planning strategies
  • Balanced substitutions for major food groups
  • GI evaluation and food-challenge planning when appropriate
  • A simplified supplement plan
  • Coordination with an allergist or other medical professional when needed

Your path forward
